| £95

Sharpen your pen, hone your writing skills and be inspired by a full day of crime-writing advice and tips with our Crime Writing Masterclass.

INCLUDES:

LOUISE WELSH: THE CRAFT OF CRIME WRITING

Louise Welsh is the author of seven novels, most recently Death is a Welcome Guest (2015) which was long listed for Theakston’s Old Peculiar Award and shortlisted for the Bloody Scotland Crime Book of the Year. Louise has received several awards and international fellowships, including an honorary doctorate from Edinburgh Napier University and an honorary fellowship on the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program (2011). Earlier this year Louise was a University of Otago Scottish Writers Fellow in New Zealand. She is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow.

LESLEY THOMSON: FINDING THE PLOT

This collaborative workshop will explore the importance of plot for your writing, both within the overall structure and the minute-by-minute drama. It will be led by award-winning writer Lesley Thomson, author of six novels including the bestselling The Detective’s Daughter series (The Detective’s Daughter was a long running Kindle #1 and Sainsbury’s Ebook of the Year, 2014). The latest in the series is The House with No Rooms (2016).

LIAM MURRAY BELL: PLACE AS CHARACTER

Rebus is synonymous with Edinburgh, Laidlaw with Glasgow, and Perez with Shetland, but which setting or landscape best matches your fictional detective? Led by the University of Stirling’s Liam Murray Bell, author of So It Is (shortlisted for Scottish Book of the Year 2013) and The Busker (2014), this workshop will ask you to think not just about what happens in your narrative but also about where the action takes place.

The day also includes a panel on current crime market trends with publishers and agents, chaired by the Stirling Centre for International Publishing and Communication.
